My Story, My Voice

It wasn't until recently that I realized I had a voice. And for many years I was silent. But now I want to use my voice to help others who might need to find theirs.

I had a difficult childhood. It was not the worst that could've happened, but it was very far from the best. Emotional abuse is discounted because you don't see any visible bruises. But I have lots of scars. Recently, I heard someone say that 'what goes in early, goes in deep.' And that was certainly my case.

Having cerebral palsy, being Korean and adopted, and realizing I was gay, made for a unique childhood and adolescence. Additionally, I grew up with someone who suffered deeply from mental illness, specifically from having a borderline personality disorder. This had major negative impacts on my family.

We must forcefully challenge our society to be better at understanding human psychology. I hope to promote the difference between mental health and mental illness. Anyone who feels they do not have a voice deserves to be heard, even if it's just a whisper.
